The team of the Sociology of Education and Socialization Research unit focuses in its research and teaching on the social conditions of education, institutions of upbringing and education, and the interaction processes embedded within them. With particular attention to difference and social inequalities, socialization is studied using methods of qualitative educational and social research. This includes the understanding that categories of difference such as migration, gender, or class are interdependent, that is, intertwined, and that the associated forms of discrimination operate at the individual, organizational, and societal levels. The unit pays particular attention to migration, social belonging, and processes of transnationalization. Research, teaching, and continuing education are oriented toward various fields of pedagogical practice, especially schools.
