Maria Wargin is a research assistant and PhD student at the Chair of Philosophy and History of Science, Department of Philosophy I, Ruhr University Bochum. After having received her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Philosophy and Russian Culture in Bochum and Saint Petersburg, she was a research assistant at the Chair for Slavic Philology, Ludwig-Maximilan University in Munich. Her research unit in the German Research Foundation (DFG) funded project "What if?" investigated counterfactual thinking in the historical sciences of the Soviet Union.
Currently she is writing her PhD thesis ("Freiheit als Probierstein der Wissenschaft. Die 'Freiheitsantinomie' Kants metatheoretisch interpretiert"). It puts a new spin on the freedom-antinomy in the Critique of Pure Reason interpreting it as a metatheoretical conflict of different models in the science. Her research interests include history and philosophy of science and epistemology, also in the German Classical Philosophy. She has been awarded a scholarship by the The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung), also German National Academic Fundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes), for the duration of her studies and her work on her PhD thesis.
