Research

Our research projects investigate conditions of teaching and learning. These include competencies of teachers and learners on the one hand and characteristics of the learning environment on the other. With regard to competencies, the focus is on diagnosing cross-curricular competencies such as self-regulated learning or problem solving on part of the learners or general pedagogical competencies on part of the teachers. In the research of learning environments, the focus is on the design of computer-based simulations and multimedia learning environments that are conducive to learning.

The research on learning and instruction carried out in the projects is an empirical discipline with a strong quantitative orientation. The methodological approaches range from test procedures for large-scale assessments such as PISA or learning level surveys to computer-based process diagnostics. Project designs range from large-scale assessments to correlative evaluation studies and cognitive psychology experiments.
