Student Council vs. Student Representative Council?

What is the Student Council (Fachschaft)?

As soon as a person starts studying on a degree programme, they are part of the Student Council for the duration of their studies.
For example, a person who is studying for a degree in Educational Science automatically becomes a member of the Student Council for Educational Science and a person studying for a degree in teaching with the subjects Mathematics and Educational Science becomes a member of both the Student Council for Mathematics and the Student Council for Educational Science.
In principle, this means that all students in a subject area make up the Student Council .

What is the Student Representative Council (Fachschaftsrat)?

The Student Representative Council for a subject (Fachschaftsrat, abbreviation: FSR) is a body of students who are elected from the corresponding Student Council (Fachschaft), and who have the following responsibilities:

• To represent all students who are members of the corresponding Student Council in various committees of the faculty and the institute
• To mediate between students and academic teaching staff
• To advise and support students in planning their course of study
• To plan and organize various informational and recreational events.

If you are interested in getting involved in the Student Representative Council, contributing your own ideas, and helping your fellow students, you can stand for election to the FSR every semester at the General Assembly!
