The Professorship of History of Education engages in research and teaching with the historical processes that have shaped the emergence and development of the modern educational system. Its focus encompasses fundamental concepts and ideas, as well as the systemic issues manifested in educational professions and organisations, and, above all, the practices through which, for example, forms of school-based teaching and pedagogy, as well as modern relations of subjectivity, are constitutively produced.
Specific areas of research include the history of pedagogical practices and dispositifs (examination, performance, attention), the history of teacher education and school reforms since the Enlightenment, and the history of student newspapers in the Federal Republic of Germany and their functional equivalents in the German Democratic Republic.
