Local Ethics Committee

The Local Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is an independent body. It examines and issues opinions on ethical aspects of planned research projects at the Faculty. The Ethics Committee considers in particular whether:

  • all necessary precautions have been taken to minimize the risk for subjects of, and those directly affected by, the conduct of studies;
  • there is no inappropriate relationship between the benefits and risks of the project;
  • the consent of subjects or their legal representatives is sufficiently documented, and the subjects receive all necessary information to enable informed decisions whether to voluntarily participate.

The procedure of the Ethics Committee is based on the rules of procedure and the ethics guidelines of the Ethics Committee of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Psychologie.
