Theories of Education and Educational Science

The research area 'Theories of Education and Educational Science' is part of General Educational Science and deals with fundamental theoretical and methodological questions of educational science. In addition to constitutional-theoretical and conceptual perspectives, this includes questions about the prerequisites and conditions, the forms and logic, and the aims and functions of education.

The starting point for theoretical research is the insight, that what is understood by education always depends on which cultural preconceptions is shared, and which categorical and disciplinary perspectives are adopted. Within the framework of educational science, the field therefore has a fundamental and reflective function, as well as a reception, integration, and cooperation function, both intra- and interdisciplinary.
