The Bachelor's programme offers an overview of the basics of Educational Science. Educational policy programmes are analysed, theories of human development and learning are introduced, and the social conditions of growing up are addressed. Particular attention is paid to critical reflection on digital media in teaching and learning, whether in school, other places of learning such as museums, or in informal contexts such as research on the internet.
In addition, there is an introduction to qualitative and quantitative social science research methods. Qualitative research methods examine linguistic or pictorial documents, while quantitative methods use statistics for recording and analysing mass phenomena.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational Science, you can decide whether to enter working life or continue your studies at the Master’s level. In this case, it is possible to continue studying both of the subjects from the Bachelor’s degree in the Master of Arts or to concentrate exclusively on educational science. If you have studied a so-called core subject such as German or English as a second subject at Bachelor's level, you are also eligible to enter the Master of Education degree programme, which prepares you to enter the teaching profession at secondary level in Gymnasien (grammar schools) and Gesamtschulen (comprehensive secondary schools) in Germany.
Students who enter working life after completing a Bachelor's degree in educational science usually go on to work in advisory and administrative positions in educational organizations or in social services.
