As a consecutive 2-subject Master's degree programme, it builds on the 2-subject Bachelor's degree programme. As a rule, the subject combination of the Bachelor's degree programme with the two equally weighted subjects is continued in the Master's phase. However, graduates of a single-subject Bachelor of Arts can also combine the subject Educational Science with Gender Studies.

This partial-degree programme offers a sound theoretical and methodological training in Educational Science. In terms of content, the subject-specific and methodological modules of the Bachelor's programme are continued. At the beginning of the Master's programme, you will select a combination of theory and research methods modules. You will select one theory module from a choice of educational theory, history of education, psychology or sociology, which is then linked to a quantitative, qualitative or text-analytical method module within the context of a research workshop.

The compulsory part of the course will continue to cover digitality and learning in terms of designing and practically testing learning environments. In addition, there is an elective area, the so-called supplementary area. A further module can be chosen from the range of courses offered in the subject in order to refine your individual profile.

Teaching and learning take place exclusively in seminars and tutorials, mostly in small groups. This provides a good working atmosphere and promotes intensive discussion between students and lecturers. In some modules it is possible to choose the format of the end of module examination yourself.

The Master's degree programme takes up current topics of teaching and learning in extracurricular settings and links them to questions about growing up with digitalisation. From the perspective of pedagogical forms of action, the innovative profile focuses on non-formal and informal learning in the knowledge society that takes place, for example, in other places of learning such as museums, on nature trails or in the workplace across the entire lifespan.

Depending on the choice of specialization modules, research methods, electives, as well as the structure of the second subject of study, there is a range of possibilities for you to create your own tailored study profile.

The Master of Arts degree programme in Educational Science, 2-subject model prepares students for planning, designing, implementing and evaluating educational programmes and offerings in diverse teaching-learning settings. In addition to jobs in educational institutions and organisations, in social services, foundations, or in business, there are also attractive employment opportunities in university and non-university research, as well as the potential to pursue a doctorate at the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Science.
Career prospects and activities may vary depending on your chosen combination of subjects and individual study profile.

For prospective students with international certificates, detailed information and advisory services on the application process and enrollment are available. Please find more information here.
